Discounts for Students in Need

Students in need can study at the FernUniversität in Hagen at a reduced rate. Under certain conditions, we will waive part of the semester costs upon application – regardless of whether you are studying full-time or part-time. Both your first degree and your first consecutive master’s degree are eligible for this reduction.

  • Full-time and part-time students who, at the time of application:

  • Full-time study:

    Part-time study:

    The basic fee of 60 euros is not covered by the fee reduction, i.e. is not reduced.

  • Please submit the following documents with your application for a discount:

    • As a recipient of benefits to secure your livelihood (citizen’s allowance, basic income support in old age, basic income support in the event of incapacity to work or SGB XII Chapter 4): Copy of the notification from the responsible social welfare office or job center
    • As a recipient of benefits under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG): Copy of the notification of receipt of BAföG benefits under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) for the semester for which the fee reduction is requested
    • As a prisoner without sufficient funds (“insufficient personal funds”): the completed certificate of imprisonment (PDF 661 KB)

    Proof of academic success is also required from the fourth semester onwards. Please enclose a copy of proof of successful examination performance from the last three semesters with your application. At least one new passed examination is required for each additional semester.

You must resubmit your application for a reduction each semester within the following deadlines:

  • Summer semester: 1 December to 31 January
  • Winter semester: 1 June to 31 July
