Costs of Distance Learning
Studying at the FernUniversität in Hagen is great value, but what exactly does it cost?
The time and effort required for distance teaching is greater than for face-to-face study at an on-campus university. For example, we produce course material study packs that we distribute to students. Multimedia teaching, the provision of technical infrastructure and decentralized student support are also cost factors. This additional expense compared to “on-site studies” is covered by our fees.
At the state-run FernUniversität, costs are incurred per semester. A semester lasts a full six months – which is important to know when comparing us with other providers. We are happy to explain how high the semester costs are and how much a degree course costs in total.
Costs per Semester (6 Months)
- Full-time with 30 ECTS credits: 390 euros
- Part-time with 20 ECTS credits: 280 euros
- Part-time with 15 ECTS credits: 225 euros
The semester costs are currently made up as follows:
- Basic fee 60 euros
- Document fee 11 euros per ECTS point
- Student body contribution: For the summer semester 2025, this fee will not be charged (one time only)
Costs per Study Program
The total costs for a degree course completed during the standard period of study are as follows:
- approximately 2,000 to 2,700 eurosfor a bachelor’s degree
- around 3,600 to 3,900 eurosfor state examination studies
- approximately 700 to 1,800 eurosfor a master’s degree
The basic fee and student body fee are due each semester. The ECTS costs for the fee-based course units depend on your enrollment: How much and how quickly you study is up to you.
