The FernUniversität in Hagen is obligated to implement the requirements of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The data protection officer belongs to the Office for Data Protection and IT Security.

• It is not always simple to strike a fair balance between the competing fundamental rights of freedom in research and informational self-determination on the basis of the GDPR. The data protection officer can assist you with this.
• The data protection officer supports and advises the university as a whole on the topic of data protection - from the university’s management to individual employees and students.
• All employees, students, and anyone else with questions or concerns regarding their personal data can turn to the data protection officer.
• If you want to implement a project, for example introducing a new program, you can consult with the data protection officer. Together, we can find an appropriate solution.
• Your inquiry will be treated with strict confidentiality, since the data protection officer operates independently and autonomously and is bound by a duty of professional secrecy.
