De-registration: Your Study Program Ends ...
The best reason for deregistering is completing your studies! We say: Congratulations!
After receiving your certificate, you will be automatically deregistered by the university administration at the end of the current semester. Unless ... you’re planning on studying something else – for example, another degree course or a consecutive master’s degree.
... If You Fail to Re-Register
Like at all state universities, students must re-register for the coming semester if they wish to continue studying. Make sure you do not miss the respective deadline. If you no longer wish to study in the coming semester, simply do not re-register. If you do not re-register, you will be automatically exmatriculated ex officio at the end of the current semester: in the summer semester on September 30, in the winter semester on March 31.

... Or at Any Time at Your Request.
You can apply for de-registration yourself at any time. You will then be de-registered either immediately or at the end of the semester, depending on your preference. All fees already incurred must be paid in full. However, as you can read on our page about costs, students at the FernUniversität only contribute to the special costs of distance learning. The course is therefore still very affordable overall.
If you de-register before the start of a new semester by the end of the registration period (31.01./31.07.), you will not have to pay the basic fee or student fee for the next semester. In the event of late de-registration, you will only have to pay the basic fee and student fee. Any modules booked for the coming new semester can be canceled free of charge until the end of February or the end of August.
