General

  • This is required by law. Every applicant must provide this proof, see Section 199a para. 2 SGB V.

  • You can ask your health insurance company to send us a digital notification before you apply. These requests are usually processed in around 48 hours.

    We cannot process your application for enrollment without proof of health insurance. If we have not received the confirmation, we will contact you. In this case, the processing of your application will naturally take a little longer.

  • Yes, of course. This can even speed up how quickly we process your application.

  • You can ask your insurance company to send health insurance notifications to different universities. If you do not register, the messages will be deleted in due course. Proof of health insurance does not oblige you to start studying.

  • Ask a statutory health insurance company to send confirmation via the student registration procedure to the FernUniversität. You can find out exactly how to do this here.

  • Nothing. If you do not apply to be enrolled, your digital health insurance certificate will not be processed any further and will be deleted later.

    If you apply for a later semester, you will need a new digital health insurance certificate.

  • Yes. Every prospective student must provide this proof, regardless of their age. This is laid down in Section 199a Para. 2 SGB V and is not dependent on whether you are obliged to take out student health insurance in accordance with Section 5 Para. 1 No. 9 SGB V.

  • You need a confirmation of your health insurance status provided by a statutory health insurance company via the student registration procedure. This procedure is prescribed by law (Section 199a (2) SGB V). We are not allowed to accept any other proof.

    Please contact the statutory health insurance fund with which you were last insured or any statutory health insurance fund that you could choose if you were obliged to take out insurance. Ask this health insurance company to send a confirmation of your health insurance status to the FernUniversität in Hagen (transmission number H0001901) as part of the digital student registration procedure.

    The digital student registration procedure only exists between the public health insurance companies and universities; private health insurance companies do not participate. For this reason, a statutory health insurance company must send this legally required digital confirmation of health insurance status to the FernUniversität.

Abroad

  • Students residing abroad who are also pursuing their distance-learning course from there do not have to provide proof of health insurance. Please select the appropriate item in the application form.

  • Please contact a German statutory health insurance company for verification.

Legal Basis

  • Every prospective student is required to provide proof of eligibility in accordance with Section 199a (2) SGB V, regardless of their age.

  • Health insurance is compulsory for all students up to the age of 30 in accordance with Section 5 Para. 1 No. 9 and 10 SGB V.
