Have you already checked out the admission requirements but you are still unsure whether your qualifications are sufficient for admission to the distance learning course? No problem! We can check your certificates for you up to two months before the start of official enrollment, allowing you to plan your studies in good time.

 

Winter semester

Start of semester: 1 October

Summer semester

Start of semester: 1 April

Enrollment: 1 December – 31 January

All of our courses can also be taken with international qualifications. You are welcome to send us your foreign certificates and your proof of German language skills for a preliminary check.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers (FAQs)

  • A pre-check is a process that will tell you whether your previous certificates (German or international) qualify you for admission to a degree program at the FernUniversität.

  • You should arrange for a preliminary check if you are planning to start your studies immediately in the coming semester (maximum 6 months before the start of your studies).

    A pre-check any further in advance is not especially helpful, as the entry requirements may change in the meantime.

  • Preliminary check for bachelor’s degree/first legal examination with German documentation:

    • Certificate (e.g., Abitur, subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, vocational qualification e.g. IHK examination certificate)
    • If applicable, further documents (e.g., in the case of access via vocational qualifications, short CV or proof of practical professional experience)

    Preliminary check for master’s degree with German documentation:

    • Degree transcript (e.g., listing of completed subjects and ECTS points)
    • Degree certificate (e.g., bachelor’s degree certificate)
    • If necessary, further documents (e.g., additional performance overview with ECTS points or course plan with weekly workload for diploma degrees)
    • Link to the module handbook of your degree program, if applicable

    Preliminary check for bachelor’s degree/first legal examination with international documentation:

    • Certificate in the original language (e.g., high school leaving certificate(s), subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, vocational qualification e.g. IHK examination certificate)
    • Translation of the certificate if the original is not in German or English
    • Further documents (e.g., entrance examinations, proof of studies) if applicable
    • Translation of other documents, if the original is not available in German or English
    • Proof of German language skills (e.g., TestDaF certificate, DSH certificate)
    • If available, assessment by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB)

    Preliminary check for master’s degree with international documentation:

    • Degree transcript in the original language (e.g., listing of completed subjects and ECTS points)
    • Translation of the transcript if the original is not in German or English
    • Degree certificate (e.g., bachelor’s degree certificate)
    • Translation of the degree certificate if the original is not in German or English
    • Additional documents if necessary (e.g., course plan with weekly workload for diploma degrees)
    • Link to the module handbook of your degree program, if applicable
    • Proof of German language skills (e.g., TestDaF certificate, DSH certificate)

  • The preliminary check is free of charge.

  • The preliminary check is only a simple check to see if you are qualified to enroll in a distance learning course.

    Enrolling means submitting your documents to apply for admission to your desired degree program.
