M.A. History of Europe: Course Content

What makes Europe special? How has it developed into what it is today? In the master’s degree program in European History, you will study the history of Europe in its formative phases and deepen your knowledge of economic, political, social and cultural structures and processes.

As a master’s student in European History, you will expand your skills in academic work and in independently understanding, processing, and evaluating complex contexts in history, cultural studies, and social sciences. Following the compulsory foundation phase, you will have the opportunity to choose the content of your studies from a range of subjects that suit your interests in the advanced phase of the course. This gives you an opportunity to concentrate on the history of ancient Europe, European modernity or the history of Europe in a global context. Alternatively, you can study modules from all three areas, building a broad range of specialist knowledge that can be applied later in academic or research-related institutions.
