Bachelor of Psychology: Course Content

Psychology deals with human thought, experience and behavior. It can help answer a wide range of questions:

  • Why do people do certain things?
  • Why is it difficult to change habits?
  • What is the best way to share new knowledge with others?
  • How do we find out who is particularly suitable for certain tasks?
  • Why do we behave differently in a group than alone?

During your bachelor’s degree in Psychology, you will acquire a sound knowledge of the traditional basics of psychology. The modules in the compulsory elective area are characterized by their application-oriented content and you can select what best suits your personal areas of interest. In the “General Psychology” lectures and seminars, you will learn how people perceive and think, and how they make judgments and decisions. Why individuals act differently in a group than alone is an aspect of “Social Psychology.” “Developmental Psychology” sheds light on how abilities, skills and characteristics change from childhood to old age. And what makes people different from one another, what makes them unique, is a key component of “Personality Psychology.” In addition, you will receive in-depth training in methods and diagnostics, which is essential for a future career in the field of psychology.

The content of the course is based on the recommendations of the German Psychological Society (DGPs). Please note: Clinical Psychology is not part of the curriculum. With that in mind, the B.Sc. in Psychology at the FernUniversität in Hagen is not recommended for prospective students wishing to train as psychological psychotherapists.
