"Introduction to Japanese Law" in the Master of Laws Programme at the FernUniversität Hagen
Applicability in the LL.M. Programme
Students interested in the Master of Laws (LL.M.) programme at the FernUniversität Hagen who wish to gain an initial insight into Japanese law can enrol on the elective module 55311 "Introduction to Japanese Law". This module can be taken by all students on the LL.M. programme as an elective module and, if successfully passed, is included in the overall Master's grade.
Module Description
Module 55311 consists of the course units Fundamentals of Japanese Law, Japanese Constitutional Law and Japanese Civil Law, which are divided into several parts. In this module, students are given an in-depth overview of the subject matter of the mentioned areas. Knowledge of the Japanese language is not required.
The module concludes with a final seminar.
Study trip
Since the travel restrictions to Japan have been lifted, we are once again offering study trips to Japan with focus on law, as we have done in the past: These are scheduled to include visits to the National Diet, the Supreme Court, Tōkyō District Court, Fuchū Prison and Kyōto Police Station. Graduates of this elective module are eligible to participate. To this end, a faculty partnership with the Dōshisha Law School Kyōto was finalized in June 2024.
Recognition Options
Graduates of the Master's elective module Introduction to Japanese Law can have this module recognised when enrolling on the executive education programme "Foundations of Japanese Law". In general, this will allow one compulsory module of the executive education programme to be recognised, which will also result in a corresponding reduction in fees. When enrolling on the executive education programme, please state the recognition request in the enrolment application.
