Information for Teaching Staff
A short-term stay abroad can bring both personal and professional benefits. It can help you with the acquisition of the kinds of professional, linguistic, didactic and intercultural competencies and qualifications that are increasingly in demand in the context of progressive global networking and internationalization of science, academia and the business world. In terms of duration, your stay abroad can last for just a few days or even several months. The possibilities for a stay abroad are manifold. The form your stay takes depends not only on your personal requirements and interests, but also on the intended benefit for your ongoing (academic) career.

Lecturers can make the most of the opportunity to teach at another university for a limited period of time. This can provide unparalleled personal, professional and didactically rewarding encounters with the academic and teaching systems of other countries. Whether this takes place in the context of a block seminar or an entire semester, a guest lectureship offers diverse opportunities for productive networking and enhancing your professional pedagogical experience. Funding for a short-term guest lectureship is possible through the Erasmus+ Mobility for Teaching Staff (Higher Education) program and the DAAD Short- and Long-term Lectureship programs.

The aim of the Erasmus+ mobility program for continuing education and training is to provide staff with a chance to get to know another higher education institution, its structure, organization and working methods, to make new contacts and exchange experiences with colleagues in another country. Whether as part of an organized Staff Week or as individual job shadowing, the experience will enrich your own (career) path.

Assessments for Students’ Stays Abroad
International visits are an enriching experience – also for students at FernUniversität who want to expand their professional, linguistic and intercultural competencies through stays abroad. To apply for scholarships for stays abroad in funding programs such as Erasmus+ and Promos, you will need an assessment from one of your professors or university lecturers. Letters of recommendation for students deal with matters such as:
- Which study achievements have been made at the FernUniversität so far?
- How does the planned stay abroad relate to your studies?
- Why is the stay abroad useful (in terms of the subject being studied)?
Your expertise and assessment is needed. Even if you do not know the students personally, please do not hesitate to comply with a request from a student.
