Abstract:

Increasing competition forces businesses to respond to business opportunities that one organization alone cannot exploit. Virtual Organizations (VOs) are a prominent example for cooperative forms that are currently investigated eg in collaborative engineering. During the initiation and lifecycle of such cooperations, trust is indispensable as a heuristic to mitigate risk when selecting or transacting with previously unknown business partners. Current risk management approaches thereby can serve as a framework to derive appropriate trust measures. Further, modeling reputation as an aggregated measure of trust and learning from past transactions has proved to be an appropriate approach in many areas of trust management.
