Topic

Recommender systems are used in a variety of domains to provide users with recommendations that may be of interest to them. Increased research into the application of such systems in Higher Education and their supplementation with technologies such as large language models have the potential to improve the quality of available systems. These developments could, in turn, enhance the ability of recommender systems in Higher Education to support students by enabling them to make more informed decisions about which resources to use or which learning activities to pursue next, and thus to foster student ownership.

Description

EduRS 2025 – Recommender Systems in Education: Enhancing Higher Education for Personalized Learning delves into the critical role of technology in enhancing transparency and traceability in educational content and pathways. This workshop is designed to foster a deeper understanding of how recommender systems, that are powered by large language models and AI, can be strategically integrated into the open education ecosystem to provide personalized, adaptive learning experiences for every learner.

Through engaging discussions, case studies, and demonstrations, EduRS 2025 will provide educators, technologists, and researchers with the insights and tools necessary to advance higher education. We invite you to join us for submission and participation to share your innovative ideas, research and solutions that leverage technology to make education more personalized, inclusive, and future-ready.

Workshop Themes and Topics

EduRS 2025 will feature a variety of sessions that cover but are not limited to:

  • Theoretical algorithms, models, frameworks, for recommender systems in education.
  • Innovations in LLMs that enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of recommendations.
  • New challenges of traditional recommender systems, e.g. knowledge-based, multi-criteria and cross-domain recommendations.
  • Case studies highlighting successful implementations of personalized learning environments.
  • Privacy, bias, fairness, and ethical considerations of AI in higher education.
  • Building trustworthiness and transparency into the design of recommender systems.
