Abstract:

The sector of intermodal mobility has increasingly focused on the use of gamification elements. While smart mobility systems (SMSs) intend to change users’ behavior, many SMS lack long-term user engagement and suffer from the fact that the gamification elements used suffer from abrasion. Research and practice have started examining engagement factors in order to increase long-term engagement with SMSs. One possible way to overcome this problem are gamification elements in the form of personalized and motivating messages. The question of how possible abrasion effects of such messages can be counteracted over time has not been answered satisfactorily yet. AI can help improve long-term engagement by generating new messages at particular times. In our paper, we try to recognize these points in time with an experimental study with three different groups and settings. The study was accompanied by a diary. We present the analysis of the initial results in this paper.
