Prof. Winkler spoke as a digital health expert at the Stuttgart campus

[24.10.2024]

As part of the series ‘Talks at the Weinberg – Science and Business in Dialogue’, an event was held on the digital transformation in the healthcare sector for the interested public and students of the FernUniversität.

Prof. Dr. Till Winkler gave an overview of the state of digital health applications (DiGA) and their role in the German healthcare system. DiGAs are patient-centred software applications (apps or web apps) that have been clinically proven to improve the process of diagnosing, treating, managing or preventing diseases. In Germany, DiGAs can be prescribed by doctors and psychotherapists as and reimbursed by health insurance companies.

In the subsequent panel discussion, further experts from science and practice discussed the future of digital health care. Hanna Schuler, founder of the start-up coreway, provided insights into the practical development of a DiGA for people with chronic inflammatory bowel disease. Prof. Kappler presented her research project ‘Telemedicine – quo vadis?’, while Benjamin Finger, Head of Telemedicine at the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart, added to the discussion with experiences from everyday clinical practice.

Under the knowledgeable moderation of Prof. Wesche, the participants discussed central aspects such as implementation challenges and success factors for the integration of digital solutions into healthcare. The discussion was held with both the in-person audience and participants connected online and concluded with an outlook on the future of the German healthcare system.
