Module 31071 – Introduction to Business Information Systems

Module description

The aim of the module is to provide a general overview of the various subject areas of Business Information Systems Engineering, as well as its historically developed basis and practical application possibilities in terms of possible professional fields of activity. Designed as a course in the Bachelor's core study program, students are also prepared for other classes in their studies.

The module is targeted specifically at bachelor students enrolled in Economics and Business Information Systems Engineering study programs. However, it can also give interested students enrolled in other programs an initial insight into the theoretical and practical foundations of Business Information Systems Engineering.


Module 31831 – Knowledge Management

Module description

The module’s aim is to provide an overview of different Knowledge Management (KM) aspects, strategies and architectures, and how different KM tools have developed over time. Furthermore, students should be able to identify KM challenges in their own workplace but also be capable to come up with solutions and strategies to solve these.

The module is targeted at both bachelor and master students of Business Administration, Economics, and Business Information Systems. Nonetheless, it may also be interesting and valuable for any other students interested in organizational processes and challenges.


Module 31951 – Digital Transformation

Scope/workload:
10 ECTS, 300 hours
Semester/turnus:
winter term/summer term, 1 semester
Examination:
portfolio examination (starting in winter term 2023/24), consisting of
  • a one-hour written exam at the end of the semester, in which a maximum of 50 percentage points can be achieved, and
  • a group project during the semester, in which a maximum of 50 percentage points can be earned.

Module description

The aim of the module is to generate an understanding of how value creation has already changed as a result of digitalization and how it will continue to change in the future. Designed as a course with a portfolio examination, the module offers students the opportunity to further develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills as part of structured, case-based group work.

The module is targeted at both bachelor and master students in Business Information Systems Engineering and Economics. However, it can also provide interested students from other degree programs and academy students with an initial insight into the theoretical and practical foundations of Business Information Systems Engineering.


Module 32711 – Business Intelligence

Scope/workload:
10 ECTS, 300 hours
Semester/turnus:
winter term/summer term, 1 semester
Examination:
written exam (prerequisite: passing one of two homework assignments) last time in summer term 2024;
portfolio examination (starting in winter term 2024/25), consisting of
  • a one-hour written exam at the end of the semester, in which a maximum of 50 percentage points can be achieved, and
  • a group project during the semester, in which a maximum of 50 percentage points can be earned.

Module description

The aim of the module is to show how data can be purposefully transformed into information and presented to support business decisions. In addition, questions of data origin, data creation and the resulting data quality are examined. Practical applications of the information obtained in terms of possible business scenarios are also illustrated. In particular, the aim is to generate an understanding of how the evaluation of data and the utilization and presentation of information have already changed through the concepts and methods of BI (e.g. in the business environment) and will continue to change in the future.

The module is targeted specifically toward master students in the Business Information Systems Engineering and Economics degree programs. Master students enrolled in Business Engineering and Natural Sciences with a basic knowledge of information processing in Business Information Systems Engineering and an interest in analytical methods and models, as well as interested students on an academic degree course, can also take the module.
