The 36. International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS 2015) will take place 13 - 16 December 2015 at Fort Worth, Texas, USA. The ICIS 2015 ist themed "Exploring the Information Frontier". Professor Stefan Smolnik has beeb appointed Associate Editor for the track "Social Media and Digital Collaborations".

Description of the track:

Social media, typified by applications such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, have become pervasive in many parts of the world. Moreover, as digital infrastructures evolve, these applications are rapidly gaining traction in previously unconnected countries and locations. While, for many, social media hold out the promise of new ways of organizing and collaborating, others question whether such developments are universally positive or indeed discontinuous. This track is concerned with research that goes beyond acontextual views of the collaborative aspects of social media, to focus on the historical, cultural, political and economic contexts of their use. In keeping with the collaborative theme, submissions should focus on the use of social media by organizations, groups or larger social units.

We welcome research from any philosophical, methodological and theoretical standpoint. We are also open to the study of social media in a variety of contexts - the work organization, civic society, humanitarian efforts, and disaster responses, to name but a few. A diversity of disciplinary backgrounds is also encouraged, in recognition of the contributions cultural, media and communication studies, and sociology, have made to social media research. Most importantly, we explicitly encourage submissions to this track that situate social media, and the modes by which we can study these phenomena, historically, theoretically or empirically.
