IS Research Seminar, 21. October 2014

Thanks to the invitation of Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Sunyaev, Professor Stefan Smolnik holds a guest lecture in the context of the IS Research seminar at the University of Cologne. The title is "What’s in it for employees? Uncovering the moderating role of task equivocality on the use-performance in enterprise social software use".

Summary: Despite enterprise social software platforms’ (ESSPs) widespread diffusion in recent years, organizations are still skeptical regarding their benefits for employees. Our study addresses this research gap by uncovering the link between ESSP use and its potential performance impacts. Our findings strongly suggest that ESSP use does influence both task performance and innovative performance of employees. We further reveal that task equivocality moderates the relationship between ESSP use and individual performance outcomes. These results can help researchers as well as practitioners better understand under what conditions ESSPs are likely to have the greatest impact on performance.
